Festina,
I can only speak for myself in this regard - I am testing Mandrake at work as
a NFS server vs Solaris 8 and I want NFS v3 plus the 2.4.1 kernel has better
SMP properties (I am running this on a Dell Optiplex 300 GX w/Dual PentIII) -
I have also heard that the networking was completely re-written so I would
think it would be faster. That being said I could not agree with you more, if
you are happy with your machine running 2.2.17 there is no need to upgrade the
kernel, just wait for Mandrake 8.0
