I too am having the same problem, the following is my posting to the Ximian
list:

Hi,

I am running Mandrake 7.2 on Intel and want to use Gnome desktop and
Evolution. I followed the instructions on the Evolution web pages for using
go-gnome to install the latest Ximian Gnome components over the net.
Everything worked fine i.e. the desktop came up properly at the end of the
install. When I rebooted the system (I have a dual boot installation one
disk for Linux the other for MS windoze) the graphical logon said that Gnome
was not installed on my machine and did I want to use the "default". I'm
stuck at this point in the process and haven't been able to get any closer
to Evolution.

Haven't tried to go around the graphical login and boot directly to the
console after a successful install and see what happens from there yet. Will
try today.
