I've been having the problem with install mandrake 7.2 and the 8.0 Beta.
There is a bug in the distros with my VIA Apollo IDE controller. This
means i can't install off of the CD-ROM. I've installed many other
linux distros on my system including mandrake 7.0, but there must be
some problem with the kernel they are using for the boot problem. I've
tried creating boot images with raw write to either install over a
network or off of my HD, but when i put these boot disks in at start up
the system just hangs when verifying the boot medium. It defiantly reads
the disk, but i'm wondering if i needed to specify the location of
either the ftp or the address on my HD. There didn't seem to be any
options for that in raw write. Does anyone one know how i can do this
or how to get around the actual problem of the kernel not liking my ide
controller

thanx
Jeff
