Dear friends In researching the problem with Java in Konqueror (KDE 2.01, NOT KDE 2.1), I came across an intriguing suggestion by Zeljko Vukman: "Many people repported problems with SUN's java and Konqueror. I tried it and removed it from my machine. Now I use IBM's JRE and it works perfectly." I have written to you for his help. However, I thought it wise to share this with other list members, who may be experiencing the same problem. In my earlier post "Java path in KDE 2.01 -- Please help" I reported on trying to install the Sun Java JRE 1.3 but without success. This time, I am trying to install the IBM Java JRE 1.3 Here is my story (and please remember that I am an ordinary user, not a programmer) Here is the URL I've been working with: http://www.rollins.edu/Foreign_Lang/Russian/frame1.html This site is called Russian Painting. Please try any of the java applets listed in the frame at left (ICONS, 18th century, etc.) When I first turned on my Java console, it said: Virtual Machine 1.06 Made by Transvirtual Technologies. I have no idea who Transvirtual Technologies are and what they are doing on my machine. Perhaps this is a message from the web site. Well, I installed Sun's JRE (rpm file) and checked under Setting, Configure, Browser, Java: "Detect automatically." Nothing happened. After reading your remarks, I uninstalled (repm -e) Sun's Java and went to IBM and downloaded their version. This time, the Java Console still said "Virtual Machine 1.06, etc.," but, for the first time, the applet in the center of the page came to life: I saw a lovely multicolored background with the message "Loading" superimposed on it. In the left bottom on the status bar I saw: "Image 1". Each of these applets has 10 images of paintings, and they follow each other seamlessly. Really gorgeous! Well, that's when everything stopped. The "Loading" disappeared, the background returned to white or off-white or whatever and that was that. I get the impression that I am almost there. Can you please help?
