Due to licensing restrictions on qmail dealing primarily with binary
distribution, it isn't "safe" (in legal terms) to distribute qmail in
binary format for Linux Mandrake.

*However* anyone wanting to use qmail can do so by visiting
www.freezer-burn.org/ and clicking on the "qmail under Linux-Mandrake"
link to view my pages on getting qmail to work under Linux Mandrake
with the binary rpms I've created for qmail.

The qmail rpms work 100%, along with a number of associated utilities
(those that have not been thoroughly tested have been noted, which is
basically some minor utilities and courier-imap). I've been using
these qmail rpms on my own system for months without a problem, using
it for virtual hosting for a number of domains to using it as a local
MTA on a workstation. Configuration is simplistic and it works right
out of the box for local MTA's and with a little bit of work for a
full-blown multi-domain mail server.

Until we get the blessing of the author to distribute the rpm in
binary form (which follows the letter of his license restrictions on
binary distribution completely), we most likely will not have qmail in
the distribution. Why? Because there is no point in getting tangled
in some legalities (even though I am confident the license is not
broken with my binary rpms, I am not willing to endanger MandrakeSoft
with a potential suit). Until Dan gives me the ok to do so (which has
been asked on more than one occassion), you can only get the binary
rpm from my site.

This is unfortunate and I wish this wasn't the way it had to be, but
unfortunately the license is rather clear on the matter and although I
believe he allows for a "grey" area, I don't think anyone wants to see
MandrakeSoft get into any kind of trouble for entering that grey area
(myself, as an individual, am not so concerned with distributing it
myself for Linux Mandrake unofficially and without their resources or
time).

So, to make a long story even longer, that's why it's not in the
distribution (in a rather large nutshell).
