I use scsi , sane, xsane et. al. on my 7.2 with updates/etc but doing a 'locate' I
find;
/usr/share/sane-backends-1.0.4/backend/umax-scanner.c
/usr/share/sane-backends-1.0.4/tools/find-scanner.c
/usr/src/linux-2.2.17/drivers/usb/scanner.c
/usr/src/php-devel/extensions/standard/url_scanner.c
/usr/src/linux-2.4.0/drivers/usb/scanner.c
So looks like it is there somewhere for both 2.2.17x and
2.4.x kernels. by using the newer sane-1.0.4
