I assume you are using Mandrake at home?  There are slight differences,
even though LM is based on RH...

Did you install the <mumble mumble> rpm that RH needs to do anon ftp?
Under RH (as I remember, since I too set up anon ftp under RH 6.2),
the 'normal' ftp server rpm does not include some stuff needed to
do anon.  Unfortunately, its been a year and I forget what the
name of the rpm was... (and I dont have access to that machine
any more either - for all I know its been decommissioned...)

That is kinda strange - it says that anon is ok, then says no its not.

Hmm. Check permissions on your anon ftp root dir (root dir when chrooted,
which I assume you're doing), and all other dirs under that.

I vaugely recall something about password entries for some user, or
something, but that may be for allowing folks to become other than
anon once they've gone anon, so that's probably a blind alley.

(I use ssh for all file transfers now, so I don't even have
anon ftp set up anywhere, and I don't have a RH machine 
any more either...  But hopefully SOMETHING up there helps!)
