Dear friends:
Occasionally when I boot up to the console (runlevel 3), I see the
following strange message on the screen:
sher07 login: Winbond Super-IO detection now testing ports 3F0, 370,
250, 4E, 2E, SMSC Super -IO detection now testing Ports 2F0, 370.
I then have to type CntRL-C to return to my usual logon screen with the
prompt, so I can log INTO KDE with startx.
This doesn't happen all the time but most of the time. I can't see any
clear pattern as to when it happens and when it doesn't except to say
that I have a similar problem with reboot: sometimes Cnt+Alt+Del (or
shutdown -r now) will result in an automatic reboot. But sometimes it
hangs on "Stand by while Linux tries to reboot...". I can't perceive any
pattern here either. And I don't know if they are connected.
I have been told that I should use some sort of hardware diagnostic tool
to troubleshoot this problem. By the way, I have never had this problem
on any earlier version of Linux-Mandrake.
I would really appreciate help from one of the experts on our list.
Thank you in advance.
Benjamin
