I followed tom's kernel upgrade iii-source instructions through the
compilation and installation section of the tutorial on MUO.
Now I am scared. I got "exec /sbin/installkernel 2.4.4mjb bzImage
/usr/src/linux/System.map /boot
look like there was a problem, the default vmlinuz version is not the same
of the initrd" followed by an Error1 and an Error2.
Can someone please point me to a set of clear instructions that includes
information like what the /boot directory should look like?
I am afraid to turn my machine off. Is there a way I can reinstall the
2.4.3-20 kernel? 2.4.3-27 was a disaster for my machine.
Also, when I did mkinitrd etc, I got the msg that "No module reiserfs found
for kernel 2.4.4mjb" so I went and looked and sure enough, in the file
systems section, there is no way to enable reiserfs. Yet all my partitions
are reiserfs! What do I have to do to get reiserfs support in the kernel? Or
did I download the wrong one from kernel.org?
