So far I have had no luck with Mandrake 8.0 - in fact, I can't even get a
good install.
My machine is configured with a couple of Seagate U2W disks and an Adaptec
2940U2W controller. I've been reading everything I can find on the problems
with 2.4.3 and aic7xxx the past few days, unfortunately I haven't found a
solution.
I have flashed the bios on the 2940U2W to the latest from Adaptec, however I
am still seeing the "abort" messages. Specifically:
scsi0:0:1:0: Command found on device queue
aic7xxx_abort returns 8194
scsi0:0:1:0: Attempting to queue an ABORT
These loop about every time my CDROM (Toshiba SCSI 40x) is accessed.
I tried creating a boot disk from one of the alternative images provided on
the 'Drake8 install CD, but I only get to the initial boot GUI (just beyond
the press Enter / press F1 option) and I receive a "boot failed" message.
I'm guessing something isn't seeing the CDROM?
Can anyone provide some insight here? Three days without my primary machine
has been rather annoying. Perhaps I need to try another boot disk image or
should I just wait for 8.1?
