Hmm. Now, I've had NO problems with nVidia's 1.0 drivers, with my TNT2 card.

BUT:
-I never use gdm, or kdm, or any graphical login manager; I boot to directly
to console mode (runlevel 3).
Typing "startx gnome" or "startx KDE" is just fine by me. The few times I
have used KDM, it seemed to work for me.

-I *used* to have strange lockups, similar to yours, but haven't really seen
any, since upgrading to .9-769. And none now, using 1.0x.

- the only problem I see is that, when running "gears", I get 500+ fps ...
but can't exit the program; it kills X.
Haven't had that happen to any other GL apps, except for those GL/Mesa demo
apps (gears, bounce, etc)
