Looking for input on desktop environment.
I am presently running MDK 7.2 with a custom 2.4.4 kernel. I use KDE 2.1,
which seems to be working pretty well for me. The major drawback I have is
that of not having a great email/addressbook/syncing to Visor client.
I have been looking at a switch to Gnome, partly because Evolution looks like
it is going to be an excellent option when it finally does emerge. I find,
however, that the version of Gnone that came with the stock MDK 7.2 leaves a
lot to be desired.
Firstly, whenever I try to log off from a Gnome session, it hangs my system
(this is virtually the only thing I have found to hang my Linux system in 6
months of daily use) and I have to power down and reboot.
Secondly, I find that many apps just crash (this happens a bit with KDE to,
but not often).
Finally, I have been thinking of using Kapital (by theKompany.com) as a
quicken replacement so I can finally get rid of windows completely, but when
I last checked, Kapital was only going to be supported under KDE because,
they told me, of stability issues with Gnome.
I was thinking of getting the current release of Helix Gnome which they claim
works with MDK 7.2.
Any advice, tips, pitfalls?
