I don't know about aurora, but in 7.2 is was pretty simple to do.

1) Edit /etc/inittab and find this line:
    id:5:initdefault:
    Change the 5 to a 3.

2) Edit /etc/lilo.conf and comment out these lines:
   #message=/boot/message
   #menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw

3) Change the /boot/boot.b symbolic link from /boot/boot-menu.b to
/boot/boot.text.b

4) Run /sbin/lilo

7.1 had a realy neat system V initialization editor (SysVInit - don't hold me
to the caps). 7.2 has tksysv. It's under the Configuration->Boot and Init
menu. If you can't find those, there's the Startup Services option in
DrakConf.

Sorry, but I don't have any 8.0 info BECAUSE I CAN'T GET IT TO BOOT ON MY
MACHINE!!!!! OK, I feel better now! :)
