Your system is probably trying to load the removed ethernet card because
it's still listed in one of the following files:

/etc/sysconfig/hwconf
/etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-ethx

Trying to remove it using Linuxconf ->Networking->Hostname and
IPnetworking devices. Remove or modify the entries in Adaptor 1 or 2 or
x.
