In Linux-Mandrake HardDrake does a good job of detecting and setup new
hardware. 

I would recommend a read of the HardDrake User Guide. Other excellent
sources of various config files can be found in the Config-HOWTO. 

If you installed the full documentation peruse the Linux-Mandrake
Installation/User Guide and the Reference Manual and the index of HOWTOs
and Mini-HOWTOs.
