I have installed Mandrake-Linux 8.0 on my laptop with no errors (it
seems). I then set up the Software Manager (MandrakeUpdate) with a ftp
site, and a list of candidates available for update was displayed. I
selected a few programs to update and started the process. The rpminst
window then came up, followed shortly by the installer error window,
stating that the program was bad, unreadable, or not found. If I were
trying to update bash, the error line stated ",bash". That's right, the
program name preceeded by a comma was given as the error. Other attempts
have resulted in error lines that contain gibberish. It appears that the
input program is making a muddle of creating the command line being sent
to rpminst.

After doing the same install on my desktop, I was able to update that
system with no problems. Hmmm... Very strange!

Is this a known problem with this version of the update program? Is
there a workaround for this problem?

If I could install a corrected program, is there any documentation for
doing the updates from the command line for that install?

Any assistance is most welcome... Tom.
