Well, sort of.

In /etc/hosts on all machines, add the ip addresses and names
of all the machines.

Sorta like this:
127.0.0.1       localhost       localhost.localdomain
10.40.1.1       amachine
10.40.1.2       anothermach
10.40.1.3        yetanother

and so on.

Then it should be much faster...
