thanks for your answer

unfortunately this doesn't help. after starting xfs, i still get the very 
same error when doing startx.

here are a few more details about my problem:

when booting linux, the X font server does start (I can see the green mark 
in Aurora). but on exiting linux, the X font server shutdown fails (red 
cross in Aurora).

also, when running Xconfigurator, I can see that xfs is started again: but 
Xconfigurator is unable to test any configuration and issues an error 
saying something goes wrong somewhere (I'm afraid it is not much more 
accurate than this, but i can fetch the exact message if it helps)



maybe I would have too reinstall something, but what ? are they config 
files that I should check/fix ?

as I said previously, this arised after a hard reboot, so my file system 
may be damaged somehow (I don't know much about this issue: any explanation 
would be appreciated)
