My system freezes when doing a backup using HP Colorado tape drive. The hang
or sometimes a reboot happens at any time during the backup process.
My System:
192.168.0.1:
Celeron 466, 256Ram, Mandrake 8.0, Promise Ultra UDMA 100 controller.
Various HD Units. Home and other mounts via NFS from 192.168.0.10
Arkeia backup server software.
Realtek NIC.
192.168.0.10:
P120,160Ram, Mandrake 8.0
Various HD's exported via NFS.
Realtek NIC using twisted pair cable.
All the data to be backed up is physically on 192.168.0.10 exported via NFS.
Arkeia uses a client which is installed on 192.168.0.10. This allows me to
connect to that server and backup the volumes OR I can backup the directories
mounted on 192.168.0.1. Either way the NIC is taking a lot of traffic. I did
have the tape unit connected to the Promise controller, I thought that the
crash was occuring because I was overloading the PCI bus. (-->NIC
-->PCI-->Promise-->Tape unit).
I have now put the tape onto the standard IDE1 as slave. This still causes
the system to freeze/reboot.
I do not think that Arkeia is the problem, because if I select the backup
device as /dev/null, the backup completes OK. The data is still coming accros
the network, but not through the IDE controller???
I've tried the Arkeia forum, but not much life their. Has anyone got any
ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Dave.
