"cancel" is the same as "lprm", and that's the first thing I always try, in the forlorn hope that perhaps this time it will work. Yes, the queue status says that it's empty but the printer keeps spewing out the screwed-up binary. It works fine (here) for removing yet-to-be-printed jobs from the queue, but not for ones that have started printing.
