I used the binary for samba by michael from this list, and it worked fine,,

as a test, I copied a 200mb file to and from it from all of the other
machines on the network,, and it all worked fine...

perhaps you should do the same.. I also have mdk7.2, except I am still using
2.2.19 kernel..

Subject: [expert] Huge problems with Mandrake 7.2 and Samba 2.2.1a

Hey all

I have an almost unmodified version of Mandrake 7.2. Only thing upgraded,
is the kernel (2.4.6).

Well... I have tried with the src-RPM (both RPM-version 5 and 15) of samba
2.2.1a and got it to compile under Mandrake 7.2. But the result is very
unsatisfying... Each process that serves clients dies very often with this
message:

Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]: [2001/09/25 16:52:53, 0]
lib/fault.c:fault_report(41)
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]: INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 7 in pid 4981
(2.2.1a)
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]: Please read the file BUGS.txt in the
distribution
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]: [2001/09/25 16:52:53, 0]
lib/fault.c:fault_report(43)
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]:
===============================================================
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]: [2001/09/25 16:52:53, 0]
lib/util.c:smb_panic(1101)
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]: PANIC: internal error
Sep 25 16:52:53 intra smbd[4981]:

(sometimes it gets a signal 11 instead of 7).

This causes that people often can't save their word-documents, Access
Databases and so on... Even though the smbd daemon process spawns a new
client process immedietly after.

I can even provoke the error with some homebanking applications.

Anyone experiencing the same?

What about those who used the binary version, compiled by another one in
this group?

TIA
