for normal mail use, its not really useful at all.. (I have only made use of it a couple of times.)
but if you running alot of services for other people, then it can be handy.. I host a mail server that does mail for several different domains, and it has no pop3 service, I redirect mail to for those domains to clients personal ISP mail box, and being able to change the from address was handy in some cases,, the original address stays in the headers anyway.. so it wasnt' a big deal. rgds Frank -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Seak, Teng-Fong Sent: Saturday, 10 November 2001 2:34 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [expert] Mail server Franki wrote: >if the server receives mail for a user and passes it on, it can rewrite it >so that it appears to be from someone else. > What's the advantage of such address tampering? Any example? Something like anonymous (spam) emails? Hmm, I don't like it. For me, I would just see disadvantage because I won't know who sends me (junk) emails. Fong
