This is a function of the BIOS. I had Debian and Mandrake loaded on an IBM laptop. I just used the Function keys on the laptop to switch between LCD or External monitor, or both. Have you tried that yet? Please save me from M$!! Otherwise I don't need M$ very much. The spreadsheet program of open office isn't yet up to excel but Matlab runs on Linux so I can do all of my calculations there.
