opps I meant to say this:

XP was also miles ahead of the P4, ^on office/business apps^ but I don't
mention that because thats a
knownm shortcomming of the P4.

yeah, I know, but I have had that install of linux on 5 different mainboard
with 5 different CPU's and its proven a good indicator, not anywhere near as
useful as a real "benchmark" but a good indication of the speed on that
system..

I wasn't giving it as any indication of its speed compared to P4's, that
reference I made to the P4 was from a PC mag I have here that compared it to
a P4 2 gig and the XP1800+ pretty much sweeped the feild. (though the P4
wasn't using RDRAM, think it was using DDR just like the XP1800+) anyway,
even Quake and Expendable...

the results went something like this:

Resolution 640x480/32 1024x768/32 // 1600x1200

Athlon XP1800+
QIII 174.90fps 168 115.10

P42gig
QIII 153.1fps 148.90 108.60

The expenndable results were just as good. but I am not that keen on typing
it all out..
XP was also miles ahead of the P4, but I don't mention that because thats a
known
shortcomming of the P4.

The tests where done on production systems using the same vid card in both
(G3 Titanium 500)
with the latest detonator and chipset drivers

its just a telling report I think,, especially since the XP is less than
half the price of the P4.

Repeat after me: BogoMIPS are bogus... BogoMIPS are bogus... BogoMIPS are
bogus. They are only useful in the context of one system. If your system is
running at X BogoMIPS, and then you tweak a setting and now it's at X+Y
BogoMIPS, your system is running faster. You can't use BogoMIPS as a
benchmark to tell if a P4 is faster than an XP or not. For that, you need a
program that measures real MIPS... Or some other subjective comparision like
kernel compile times.
