yup, its a pain, and it was really bad for me at one stage because I added wvdial to rc.local to get it to dial on boot.
that was bad because I had to boot to the rescue disk and re-edit rc.local and add & to the end.. without it, the server just sat there, I couldn't get a console, and it wouldn't finish setting up, even ALT-F1 to F5 wouldn't get me to the console.. so I always add the & now,, the best lesson is a nasty one, that way you don't ever make the mistake again. wvdial is an excellent program though, if it was expanded abit, ie so users could initiate it without sudo, and you could set some parameters without using it in chat mode, and it brought up all ppp interfaces when it connected....it would be a fantastic program,, I hope development hasn't stopped on it. are you sure the redhat box wasnt already set su'd? rgds Frank -----Original Message----- From: skidley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, 18 December 2001 4:30 AM To: Franki Cc: Linux Mandrake Expert Mailing List Subject: RE: [expert] ifup ppp0 On Mon, 17 Dec 2001, Franki wrote: > if it were me, I'd install and use wvdial, its fast, and better, its > intelligent, if the connect script is doing something unusual, wvdial will > likely fix it.. > > One problem i have using wvdial is wvdial& or wvdial & doesnt give me back shell prompt.
