1. boot off the _Second_ install CD and choose an alternate install
image, most likely 2.2.19.  

2. F1 at the boot prompt and text expert

3. In individual package selection, choose to install kernel 2.2

4.  It is OK to install cups as either client or server.

5. At bootloader time, delete the boots for the 2.4 kernels They are big
and have hunger for mem and swap--make the boot to the 2.2 kernel the
default.

6.  If you want X, probably you will need more memory.  If you add the
memory, then login as root and run XFdrake --expert to get a dvideo
installation.
