The thing you need to accomplish is to boot to hde... You need something bootable at hda to manage that, and it can be a CD... try with your CD drive hooked as primary master and see what happens--I have successfully set up linux to multiple-boot from hdc while occupying hda with an ls120 and hdb with a cdrw before.
