    I used different rpms (Texstars' obprelink'd, i686, 8.1) that
installed to /opt. Use 'rpm -qpil' on your rpms to see if they do
the same. If they do, just 'rpm -ivh' 'em. If they don't, you
should use --prefix to put 'em in /opt. Then you'll have kde2 and
kde3 installed, just not in the same place.

Before you try out kde3, set your system to boot to a level 3
(text) prompt. 'startx' will run kde2, 'startkde3' should run kde3.

IMO, kde3b1 is too buggy (minor stuff) for daily use, and I
didn't see a big improvement over kde2. MOF, I didn't like some of
the new graphics. YMMV

If you go back to usin kde2 regularly, you'll probly have to fix
some stuff. I got tired of it and just --force'd all my kde2.2.2
rpms back in .. that fixed everything ;>
