Supermount is in the kernel...

Supermount worked fine with kernel 2.2 (see the problems autofs had at
www.mandrakeuser.org (searchable)) but on many systems (most) would lose
its place on the second CD to be placed in (or it would lock the first
one in) in 8.0. It was rewritten to comply with kernel 2.4 more
closely, but tthe rewrite left only root accessing floppies, so it was
disabled by default in 8.1.

You can enable it with

# supermount -i enable

that's all it takes.

(BTW supermount -i disavble followed by supermount -i enable in version
8.0 would really make a mess of /etc/fstab)

If you do enable it, your CDROM works passably well, but your floppy
does not. Other removable media varies. LS120s seem to suffer ther
floppy fate whereas zips, once deviced properly (and the plugins like
USB don't automatically) seem to work as well as CDs.

If you are a GUI user, it hardly makes any difference, especially in
KDE, just delete the default iconsfor floppy and CD, and make your own,
and clicking mounts right-clicking allows unmount/eject.

But based on the 20011224 milestone iso's it looks like supermount is
well on its way to being alive and healthy once again.
