I had the same problem with software manager some time ago, i posted 
about it but no one replied.  I dont know if its a software database 
corruption on my system or a genuine error.

anyway easiest way to remove rpms once you have found them is something 
like this probably. Maybe there is another gui app that can do it as well.

$ rpm -qa | grep gcc
gcc-2.96-0.62mdk
gcc-cpp-2.96-0.62mdk
gcc-c++-2.96-0.62mdk
gcc3.0-cpp-3.0.1-1mdk

-qa is qerry all

then just rpm -e gcc-2.96-0.62mdk

etc
