Hi all,

I have an oldish Dell Pentium II machine with onboard Crystal CS4232
audio and a "standard" installation of Mandrake 8.1. The audio works just
fine using the standard OSS drivers and software like 'mpg123' or 'xmms'.

Just for kicks I thought I'd try using 'esd', since I noticed 'xmms' had
an 'esd' output plugin. So I ran up 'esd -tcp' (Unix socket thing didn't
work for me at all) and pointed 'xmms' at it.

Unfortunately all it will do (apart from the very nice test tones at
startup) is make horrible noises at me that I find difficult to explain.
Almost like it was trying to play mangled binary garbage.

I'd appreciate any pointers and/or commiserations anyone might have (and
Carsten, this is all your fault... :)

Thanks,
