hello --

i'd like to rebuild my kernel but was surprised to find that the kernel
source is not in /usr/src/linux.
i have Mandrake 8.1; i tried looking for it in the 3 cd's using the software
manager but couldn't find it.

does anybody know for sure if the kernel source is in the cd-set or not?
also if i try to download it
from the Mandrake FTP sites, do you know what the package is called, maybe
something like
kernel-source-2.4.xx-mdk.rpm?

i might consider getting stock kernel from kernel.org; i heard that Mandrake
customizes its kernel
a lot, will my 8.1 install break if i rebuild my kernel using stock kernel
from kernel.org?

thanks,
carlo.
