The only other suggestion I have is to try the 2.4.8-34 kernel from the Mandrake 81 update directory. That fixed a parallel port issue with me, but not much else besides. Or is that the one you are running? Out of the box MDK comes with... ummm 2.4.8-something-less-than-34.
