OK:
1. OS Mandrake-Linux 8.1 w/All Updates
2. libgimp1.2_1-1.2.2-5mdk
3. gimp-data-extras-1.2.0-3mdk
4. gimpprint-4.1.99-16mdk
5. libgimpprint1-4.1.99-16mdk
6. gimp-1.2.2-6mdk
7. Printer: Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX
With Driver:
Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX
Cups+GIMP-Print v4.1.99-b2
Hmm... Looks the same.
I can print from lp with no problem. Text comes out just great.
I can print from qtcups <filename>. With no problem. Quality is very
good. With the printer jacked up to it's full 2880 dpi, it takes a
magnifying glass to tell it's not a photo.
>From GIMP. forget it. the ONLY way it will print from within GIMP, is if
I drop the resolution down to 360dpi. If it's on any greater resolution
than that, it won't print.
It may actually be a problem in the driver that I need to address with
the gimp folks. I thought at first I was missing something, but it
doesn't look like it. Also, I tried to print to my old hp 600c from
gimp. No problem. Printed fine.
So I can now feel pretty secure that it's the 785EPX driver.
Thanks all. I'll take this to gimp.
