On Tue, 12 Feb 2002 14:56:33 -0000 "Ian Land" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> thoughtfully uttered these words to ponder:
> Sorry Mark, who's the newbie? The person who hasn't got usb working > since 7.2 or me, who's had it working without any problems whatsoever > since 7.2, and in all subsequent versions... > > My tone was sharp because your original posting stated that there > wasn't any usb support in 8.1. This is clearly false. If you'd merely > said you'd had problems getting usb to work in 8.1 I might have been a > bit more sympathetic. If you make definite statements like that which > are misleading, you should expect less-than polite responses. > > Try 'modprobe usbcore' and 'modprobe usb-uhci' as a first step. For the record...I'm a programmer/network admin and I don't make it my life's passion to know all there is about USB technology. I'm "just" a geek that is attempting to "learn" something about getting his Visor to work in Mandrake where there doesn't "appear" to be any visable means of USB support. There! is that more to your liking? Did I word it better that time? As I stated in a response to Mike's post maybe I should have asked the question differently. but there are times when I will deliberately ask a question in a vague manner to elicit different types of responses garnering different types of information. it makes for a much more productive search and learning experience. From your tone and language something it would appear that if foreign to you. as for your newness...it's painfully clear since you're blistfully ignorant of the pecking order around here, and your atrocious lack of ability when it comes to listening and discerning is also painfully clear. You would do well to follow these three simple rules that will help make your stay here more enjoyable. 1) make sure you know what you're talking about when you begin to respond ane why you're talking about it. 2) take the time to listen first and know a little bit about the person you're responding to. 3) shut your mouth before sticking your foot in it because the ass you make is only your own and as a rule peoples' asses aren't all that nice to look at and yours is no different. I said all that just to make this one point clear. You haven't been here long enough nor gotten to know any of the regulars here well enough to be such a pain that will be tolerated. Take a little more time so that we can get to know you and you to know us before acting like a jerk. after that...it's all legal. know what I mean? -- daRcmaTTeR Registered Linux User 182496 Mandrake 8.1 --------------------------------------------------------------------- 9:35am up 25 min, 2 users, load average: 0.21, 0.12, 0.13
