Brandon: I'm not certain about this, but I do not believe that Mandrake maintains any sort of update service for beta distributions. The idea is to test the whole beta -- even if it has known problems (see the Mandrake Forum -- or, better yet, read the cooker archives) -- and report your results back to the developers. You are perfectly free, of course, to modify the beta in any way that you wish, but it then becomes Mandrake 8.2 beta 2 ala Brandon. Don't forget that much of the beta testing concentrates on how well new Mandrake-specific features work (wizards, etc.), and how well the package works as a whole. Also, since it's only two or three weeks between successive betas, creating an update service seems like an unreasonable task to place on a staff already busy with moving towards the production release. Another point: If stability is important, than you probably shouldn't go messing around with betas. However, if your main interest is just to get a feel for Mandrake, go ahead with Beta2. Oh, yeah: Not all of us have high speed access -- so not being able to get 100KB/S doesn't seem like the end of the world to us. OTOH, 4% of rated speed IS a damn big hit. Maybe it's time to retire that Radio Shack Model 100 server. -- cmg
