still, the comment about your need to have the correct interface assigned to the gateway card is correct. What IP are you using? Did you "upgrade", "install" (clean formated partitions?), or "update"? Just because you did not have to configure the IRQ settings, I sure would be suprised if those card did not require an IRQ. Some of the major differences between 7.2 and 8.1 are devfs, and the 2.4.x kernal in the 8.x series, vs. the 2.2.x kernal and no devfs. it may also be possible that your problem is directly realted to the way the 2.4.x kernal handles USB also. does this computer have a usb interface in BIOS? or use USB at all? USB requires a IRQ that is not well shared, and while the default kernal in 7.2 might not have seen your usb (in bios, does not matter if you have anything plugged in otr even if the cable is there, just that the computer Bios thinks there "might" be a usb device plugged in at some time. in 7.2, that would never be a problem unless you compiled a newer kernal. 8.x would assign an IRQ to listen for the USB device and might have taken the one the neywork card was assigned.
