I just got my USB LS-240 working with SCSI drivers, load the kernel modules:

sd_mod                  9756   2
usb-storage            19932   1
scsi_mod               79560   2 [sd_mod usb-storage]


and if you have no other scsi devices it should be at:

/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disk


scanning the output from dmesg should point you to the correct device.

This is using a vanilla 2.4.17 kernel.  Hopefully it will work with the 
mdk kernel too.
