I finally got a chance to work with this again and this time got in
touch with the isp. it turns out that they one of those that bind the
client eth0 h/w addr into their config. (i guess this process happens
automatically during the setup under windoze..)and they ARE running
pppoe and not dhcp.
unfortunately, i still could'nt get the adsl to come up.
the logs still show the same ....

the Roaring penguin site mentions not to use the clients thats ship with
distros.. viz RH. so i'm going to the take the latest rp-pppoe, that i
just downloaded tomorrow on a disk and try all over again....
