I know, call me a heathen, but I'm really starting to question the
usefulness of linux. I installed it perfectly on my TiBook Onyx and got
everything working, almost. The video needed a special experimental
kernel to run, and my sound was monologue, the dvd drive could not read
cd disks or dvd disks, but only formatted data disks. I couldn't figure
out how to get linux to read my osx partition, even though that sort of
labotomized my computer, but I dealt with it. Other than these few
problems I had a smoothly running and very content little linux system.
It did everything it said it would do, and more, I enjoyed it very
much. However I didn't run a server with linux, I simply used it as a
development platform, and then I got my hands on a cocoa book.

I sat down with the 5gb partition of what was left of my osx distro and
began to toy with cocoa, and then I found out what an awesome
development platform I already had. It had no hardware driver
difficulties so I had stereo sound, full video card support (which was
important to me as I use OGL) and it could read both music cds and dvd
movies. Plus I found a plethora of free software for OSX and even more
free software for Darwin. I still prefer linux over windows on a wintel
machine, but I must say, OSX has impressed me a great deal on the mac,
and now I pose this question to you:

If your not running a server, or doing a task that requires linux
specifically, why are you using it?
