I assumed the cable was some sort of video in and disregarded it. BTW, one cool thing about the xawtv software is the xawtv-remote application. You can create a webcam or live video feed using it. Since it only uses X11 images you can even run the application remotely. I haven't figured out how to get the sound working correctly across the remote however.
