What would you say about a machineY that exhibited the following characteristics?
1. AnyClientN can copy large files from machineY to local disk very quickly(via NFS). i.e. # cp /nfs/machineY/BigFile . 2. NFS file operations run by AnyClientN on the machineY filesystem show wild variations in the time required to process lstat64 and open64 system calls. i.e. # find /nfs/machineY/DirWithManyFiles > /dev/null This command takes any where from 1 to 20 seconds with most of the time being spent in the lstat64 and open64 system calls. machineY is: Solaris8 w/64 bit 2x750 UltraSparc3 SunSwift Gigabit ethernet Switched Network Same subnet as client via vlan Clients are mix of Solaris 2.8, 2.7, and 2.5.1 Linux clients are consistently as fast as heck. -Mark
