What would you say about a machineY that exhibited the following characteristics?
1. AnyClientN can copy large files from machineY to local disk very quickly(via NFS). i.e. # cp /nfs/machineY/BigFile . 2. NFS file operations run by AnyClientN on the machineY filesystem show wild variations in the time required to process lstat64 and open64 system calls. i.e. # find /nfs/machineY/DirWithManyFiles > /dev/null This command takes any where from 1 to 20 seconds with most of the time being spent in the lstat64 and open64 system calls. machineY is: Solaris8 w/64 bit 2x750 UltraSparc3 SunSwift Gigabit ethernet Switched Network Same subnet as client via vlan Clients are mix of Solaris 7 and 8 Linux clients are consistently as fast as heck. -Mark
