A valuable tip is to always make a minimum-sized ext2 sentinel
partition right at the end of the extended partition area and never
use it. This is because there are too many necessary
end-of-partition tests for an application to make at end of extended
and end of physical disk and end of partition and no-one ever seems to
get all of them right.

With such a sentinel, the only test an application must make before
writing is end of partition.

I don't consider diskdrake mature enough to trust yet - this
experience confirms that. I still will not use any partitioning tool
but Partition Magic, despite its few problems. The Ranish Partition
Manager, which comes with the free Boot Manger xosl 1.1.5
(http://www.xosl.org/), is very useful to solve partitioning problems
that PM throws up its hands over and gives up.
