I am currently running Mandrake 7.0 as a web server, and it has worked
great over the last few years. I've decided it's time to create a new
server, so I've downloaded the Mandrake 8.2 iso 3 times after realizing
that I should have used FTP instead of Explorer.. but that's a different
story.

I was able to install 8.2 on a new hard drive, using the same system that
I have my current working 7.0. Well, once everything is installed, I
can't seem to get xwindows to work. During the installation I passed the
point in the installation where it asked me if the resolution was
correct.. it displayed the penguins just beautifully, so I hit "ok."

Now, I can boot 8.2 just fine, but when I try to use xwindows, it shows
the "x" cursor, then goes blank, and takes me back to my console.

Now.. when I go to my XFree86 log file, I get this error:
:Symbol xf86InterpretEDID from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvbe.a is
:unresolved!

I have the /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libddc.a file.. so I don't understand
what is going wrong here.

I used the "higher security" selection when I installed.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

james
