One other method.  I've used it since 7.1 .... cause baby I can trash a
box if it's my work machine hehe.  Put disk one into your cd drive and
boot from it.  Choose Upgrade-Expert then when it asks for packages
uncheck everything.  It will churn for a while.... then it moves into
configuring lan and then X go through it like normal ... reboot.  and
voila X is working again.  (works great when the tools provided from the
command line don't fix it for you.)
