OK. The 10.0.0.1 address refers to my wlan card that acts as an access point for my desktop (I gave up trying to get an adhoc connection going even though it should have been painless). It is sometimes inserted and used as it conflicts with my linmodem when I try to have them both up at the same time (makes connection sharing via the modem impossible on my laptop unfortunately). The 10.0.0.5 address is the address that gets assigned by my laptop dhcp server to my desktop when it has its wlan card activated. So, given this, the /etc/hosts is cool then (other than the duplicate 127.0.0.1 entry)? praedor
