Yes...I must concur with this wholeheartedly.  The first thing we do
when encountering sendmail is to perform a specialized exorcism on the
machine in question, to remove associated demons, evil spirits, etc. You
veterans know the drill.  We found out long ago that the sendmail.cf was
merely a page ripped from the Book of Satan.

Admittedly there are configuration gui demons that make the .cf easier
to deal with, but in actuality they are somewhat like MicroSoft
marketing reps; they merely pave the way to the burning hells of
perdition.

There is one bright aspect to the whole business, however; since
sendmail does run itself as a single process under root (laff) it
provides it's most useful function as a way to keep the Bugtraq mailing
list in business.  The annualistic sendmail exploits have become quite
the dependable and comfortable item; I've become accustomed to them over
the years, and would hate to see things change.
