I assume that's a type and that you really used /dev/fd0 ? Also,
/mnt/floppy doesn't exist in the install at that time. You probably
need to do a mkdir /mnt/floppy before you try that.
Also, there is a procedure to have the system read a floppy disk for
modules you want to force it to load. I'm doing this from memory, so if
someone can correct me with a simpler method, please do. Format a
floppy and put the module you want it to load on that floppy. I can't
remember if the floppy needs to be ext2 or fat32 formatted. Try both.
Then the first screen of the install says to press Enter or F1 for more
options. Press F1, and select the mode that lets you specify a driver
disk. I believe you'll have to do expert, but the problem with that is
that all auto-detection is now disabled. But it should allow you to
specify that you have a driver disk and read it in and run it.
