Actually, Jim, there is a HUGE difference between a Pentium @ 233 MHz
and a Pentium-2 @ 333 MHz. Even if both chips were clocked at the same
MHz speed, the P-2 has a significant advantage owing to its better
architecture and more advanced features.
Also, I have noticed BIG speed differences when upgrading RAM from 64 MB
to 128 MB.
Add these two factors together, and I am not at all surprised by the
performance difference.
For what it's worth, I am running Mandrake 8.2 on my IBM ThinkPad, it's
a 366 MHz Celeron with 256 MB RAM. It is quite peppy -- faster, in fact,
than Mandrake 8.1 was (I upgraded very recently). But I am not going to
bother installing 9.x until I have a newer machine.
